The past few weeks have been incredibly intense. Over the past year, we’ve been dedicated to creating a platform for our community, and we recently partnered with the podcast Café Bambino, which showed interest in launching a memecoin. In no time, hundreds of people signed up on our website, receiving wallets, memberships to our subscription service, and the chance to become $BAMBINO millionaires.

Background

One of the hosts of Café Bambino, Karin Pettersson, who also happens to be the cultural editor for Aftonbladet—one of the largest daily newspapers in the Nordics—approaches me with an intriguing idea: launching a memecoin. The hosts, Tone Schunnesson and Karin Pettersson, aim to "troll the trolls" and confidently take a bold approach rather than hesitating. The Café Bambino audience consists mainly of women, leftists, and individuals with great taste. So why shouldn’t they dive into blockchain, crypto, and web3?

Given my long-standing curiosity about how tokens can foster communities, I can’t resist getting involved!

The project doesn’t have a budget, but it does have a significant audience. This means I need to simplify the process as much as possible, especially since many community members aren’t familiar with web3 tools or interfaces.

To bring the idea to life, I choose to launch the token on Base L2 on Farcaster through Clanker. Later, I come across Empire Builder, which provides a great platform to launch the Clanker token. I also focus on onboarding as many people as possible to Farcaster, which allows us to easily test the $BAMBINO token using small apps and frames. This approach not only streamlines the tokenized community case study but also opens up opportunities for collaboration with similar projects in the future.

One crucial factor in all of this is that I spent 2024 building sdvvvorks.io to onboard a local art-loving audience to web3. This approach simplifies everything significantly. Through the Privy integration, people easily get an embedded wallet when creating a user account. As they create their account, they receive a tier 1 subscription to our Hypersub, allowing them to seamlessly receive NFTs and ERC20 tokens. Additionally, we have implemented a native points system to incentivize specific participation, alongside a webshop that enables NFT purchases using the embedded wallet.

Over the course of a few weeks, we welcome around 800 individuals to sdvvvorks.io to take part in the $BAMBINO launch. Of this people apx 100 creates a profile on Warpcast and joins the /bambino channel.

$BAMBINO Launch Party

The AFK launch party for $BAMBINO was a delightful event. The Swedish publication Liberal Debatt describes it as follows:

Inside a bicycle shed on Hornsgatan in Stockholm, the intersection of technology and politics has found a new home.

The walls and ceiling of the windowless basement are coated in a thick layer of white paint typically meant for outdoor use. At the back of the otherwise empty room hangs a rail displaying T-shirts, caps, and even thongs. A thin neon light beam illuminates the clothes rail, highlighting the embroidered text: "love socialist crypto."

This is the release party for Café Bambino’s very own cryptocurrency, Bambino-coin. The podcast, produced by Aftonbladet Kultur and hosted by Karin Pettersson and Tone Schunesson, is now expressing its critique of contemporary society through the lens of blockchain technology.

The event on Hornsgatan traces its origins to a podcast episode from earlier this year, where the duo discussed the book Blockchain Radicals: How Capitalism Ruined Crypto and How to Fix It. In the book, author Joshua Davila explores how cryptocurrency could be used as a tool to create a more equitable, just, and potentially socialist world.

The venue was buzzing with bambinos, including notable attendees such as Nooshi Dadgostar, deputy chair of the Swedish Left Party; finance music DJ and style icon Tommie X; and even a few curious passersby who stumbled in and were swept up by the vibrant and transformative Bambino atmosphere.
